La Oreja De Van Gogh
La Oreja de Van Gogh was born in 1996 in Donostia / San Sebastián (Basque Country). Their name is inspired by the famous story of the painter Vincent van Gogh. The original lineup included Amaia Montero (vocals), Pablo Benegas (guitar), Xabi San Martín (keyboards), Álvaro Fuentes (bass), and Haritz Garde (drums). Together, they became one of the most successful Spanish pop-rock bands of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, with millions of records sold and numerous awards. During their 30-year journey, La Oreja de Van Gogh has gone through different stages that have contributed to making their musical legacy, three decades later, still one of the most important, both nationally and internationally. The band started out playing in small venues and participating in local contests before recording their first album. It was in 1998 when they released their debut album, Dile al sol, featuring songs that quickly became massive hits in both Spain and Latin America. Over time, the group cemented their status with albums like El viaje de Copperpot (2000) and Lo que te conté mientras te hacías la dormida (2003), and with songs that became Spanish pop anthems—such as “La playa”, “20 de enero”, and “Rosas”, among many others—which to this day continue to be part of the soundtrack of millions of people around the world. The album Guapa (2006) was the last one featuring Amaia Montero at the forefront during this first stage, and it became an even greater commercial success, if possible, with singles that topped the major charts. Following the start of Amaia’s solo career, La Oreja de Van Gogh continued their journey with Leire Martínez as the lead vocalist starting in 2008, releasing albums such as A las cinco en el Astoria (2008), Nuestra casa a la izquierda del tiempo (2009), and Cometas por el cielo (2011), thus expanding their musical legacy. During this stage, La Oreja de Van Gogh maintained numerous chart-topping hits and international tours, releasing well-known tracks like “Jueves”, “Inmortal”, and “La niña que llora en tus fiestas”, among others. In 2025, three decades after their formation, LOVG announced a historic milestone: the return of Amaia Montero to the group and the start of the “Tantas cosas que contar” tour, with which they will travel across the entire country in 2026 and, later on, several countries internationally. It will be a highly special tour where they will revisit their great and historic hits, as well as new songs like “Todos estamos bailando la misma canción”, released on the last day of last year with a very special performance at the Miramar Palace in their hometown. A new era that also celebrates major milestones, such as the historic streaming figures on digital platforms reached in February of this year by legendary songs like “Rosas”, surpassing one billion streams and entering straight into Spotify’s 1 Billion Club. In short, La Oreja de Van Gogh is starting a new era filled with nostalgia, emotion, and beautiful lyrics and melodies that have transcended generations and continue to beat strongly worldwide.
