Maren was born in Bilbao on November 30, 2002. She started writing songs at a very young age as a form of play, without intending for it to become her profession. Music stopped being mere entertainment and became her way of communicating and processing what was happening around her. Perhaps that is what pushed her to work on her songs at such an early age, releasing her first EP, Alguien Sin Vergüenza, at just fourteen years old. That same summer, she began playing her first acoustic concerts. The first ones were close to home, before reaching legendary venues in cities like Madrid (Costello, Siroco, Búho Real) and Barcelona (Sidecar), and playing her first festival, the Wave Rave organized by Crystal Fighters, at only 16.
She currently splits her time between Bilbao and Barcelona, the latter being the city where she began developing her professional project when she moved there to study for her arts baccalaureate. In 2020, to mark her 18th birthday, Maren played her first concert with a full band at the Teatro Campos Elíseos in Bilbao, kicking off a run of pandemic-era concerts in emblematic theaters like the Victoria Eugenia in Donostia.
In 2021, she released her debut album, Margaritas y Lavanda, recorded in Barcelona at Arctic Wave Studio and produced by Sergio Sastre, Carlos Dueñas, and Maren herself. Margaritas y Lavanda is a conversation with herself in which she reviews her fears and the passage of time, occasionally tackling more complex themes with a touch of irony.
The album has evolved during her live shows. She has debuted as one of the youngest artists on the lineups of national festivals such as San San, Festival de Les Arts, Sonorama Ribera, Warm Up, Festival Jardín de las Delicias, Cooltural Fest, O Son Do Camiño, Cruïlla, Polar Sound, and Vida Festival…
Following the album’s release, Maren composed an EP in her mother tongue, Euskera. Begixek was a personal treat and a tribute to her culture that she also brings along in her live performances wherever she goes. This EP was followed by the singles “En el Túnel de Lavado” and “Ojalá No Sea Verdad”, which pave the way for the evolution of her upcoming works.
Now, 2024 is the moment when the work of these past few years materializes in her second full-length album, Qué Lástima. After releasing singles like “Amaiera (Lo Que Te Espera)”, “Corre Que El Rayo No Te Parta”, “Acostumbrarme”, and “Haría Lo Que Fuera (Menos Lo Que Tú Quieras)”, she is gearing up for a new turn in her career.
